Six years after creator/director Damien Leone’s original franchise starter for his original bloodthirsty murdering machine, gore hunters’ favorite sadistic serial-killing clown, Art (Thornton), is back, and this time there’s really no stopping him.
Even after 80 minutes, the first Terrifier was extremely gory but also somewhat boring. With more blood buckets to spare, Terrifier 2 is arriving on the scene at a genuinely epic duration of almost 212 hours.
Given the length of the film, a more complex plot is required rather than only depending on Art’s nightlong rampage to drive the action. This is provided by two siblings: Sienna (LaVera), a high school student, and her younger brother Jonathan (Fullam). As they are targeted by Art himself on Halloween no less, at-home interpersonal issues and historical trauma from the death of their father quickly show themselves in a night of chaos and violence. Additionally, a spooky young girl clown is his adversary this time. if things could ever get worse.
Even though the overall character development and plot are obviously weak, the addition of protagonists to truly root for and stick with makes this entry flow so much more smoothly than the prior, even though it is twice as long. Although the series’ visual style hasn’t evolved much—it still relies on some very uninspired camera work and the ability to mimic the slasher atmosphere of earlier films—the elements you truly come to this film for are present in abundance: This is a really violent film. It has a brilliantly brutal production design and realistic gore effects, as well as a bloodlust that is difficult to find in a lot of other recent horror. Art’s victims are more likely to suffer from gouged eyeballs, decapitations, and amputated appendages than they are from cut throats, among other, um, creative mutilations you’re best off witnessing for yourself. There’s a particular extended cruelty sequence in this movie that almost makes the notorious hacksaw murder from the first movie seem quaint.

David Howard Thorton, who previously played Art the Clown in Terrifier, will play the lead in the sequel. The primary character of Sienna, the film’s major protagonist and heroine, will be played by Lauren LaVera (Iron Fist).
