People who lack understanding frequently engage in unusual or violent behavior in the belief that it will protect them wherever they go. Unfortunately, the world is full of such individuals.

Los Angeles was the home for such destructive minds during the 1960s and 1970s. It goes back to the time when the black youth of South Central LA was looked down upon by their other neighboring LA citizens. They were tortured, harassed, and even arrested without any crime as such. In a nutshell, they were dominated and deprived of many rights. All of this infuriated them, and this is when words like “Crips” and “Bloods” were coined. Groups were divided, alliances were formed along with illegal activities going on.

Editor’s Picks

Basically, the rivalry began when two students of Centennial High School were attacked by the Crip members in the 1960s. Since then there has always been some bad blood between the Crips and the Bloods. Both gangs are responsible for a significant portion of Los Angeles’ criminal activity.

Blood Or Crip Test

What exactly are the Crips?
The Crips were formed in the streets of Los Angeles in 1969 by founders Raymond Washington and Stanley Williams.

Washington was killed in a drive-by shooting in South Central Los Angeles in 1979.

Williams was convicted of four murders and sentenced to death the same year.

Williams was executed by lethal injection in 2005, at the age of 51.

Since 1969, the gang has grown to be one of the world’s largest, with 30,000 to 55,000 members.

The Crips are often associated with the color blue and have what are called “sets”, which include more than 13,000 groups operating in Los Angeles alone.

Among other things, the gang has been involved in murders, robberies, and drug dealing.

The Crips and Bloods rivalry date back to the early 70s.

What exactly are the Bloods?
The Bloods were formed in 1972 primarily to provide protection against the Crips.

The Bloods were formed shortly after a concert in March 1971, when 20 Crip members attacked and killed Robert Ballou Jr, who had been beaten to death for refusing to give up his leather jacket.

The Bloods have spread to other parts of the United States, including parts of Canada, since their inception.

The Bloods are reported to have 25,000 members, making them one of the largest gangs in the world.

About the quiz

What do they represent?
Blood stands for Brotherly Love Overcomes Overrides and Destruction.

Over the years the Crips meaning has taken many forms, some claim Washington was inspired by the Black Panther movement in the mid-60s.

Crips is an alleged acronym that stands for Community Revolution in Progress.

However, another theory is that the gang was initially called Cribs, a possible reference to how young its members were.

It could also be derived from the slang term crib, which means “home.”

Others believe it’s a mash-up of Cribs and RIP (rest in peace), which represents gang members’ ties from birth to death.

Another explanation is that Crips is an abbreviation for the cripple, a reference to the fact that some of the early members used canes or crippled their opponents.
