Start by understanding that Blue Exorcist’s world has two dimensions fused into one. In Assiah, the human dimension, humans live. Gehenna is the demon world. The Ao no Exorcist anime (a.k.a. Blue Exorcist) leans heavily on demon and exorcist stereotypes. Blue Exorcist has a complex dark undertone to its idea, just as other spooky anime. The anime does not wander far from the premise, but it also offers a fascinating and action-filled story.
On the surface, Blue Exorcist appears darker than other anime, but in reality, it does not go quite as deep as its outstanding images and music would lead one to assume. “Son of Satan Becomes Exorcist to Beat Dad” is too formulaic and lacks creative concepts. The fun does not wear off even when you are watching Blue Exorcist, though.
