Most people consider their first kiss to be a watershed moment in their life. You most likely recall where you were at the time, who your companion was, and who started that crucial first statement of sexuality and affection. There are several songs, movies, and even one of the most expensive paintings in the world (Klimt’s “The Kiss”) that celebrate the pressing of two people’s lips against each other, but there is surprisingly little research on the subject.
Beyond the kiss itself, you may recall who in your circle of friends was the first to experience this love milestone if you reflect on your own past. You could have believed the early kissers were exceptionally hip, popular, and daring. If it was you, on the other hand, you might have considered the desire to kiss your first guy or girl to be an interpersonal necessity that you couldn’t ignore. You were madly in love and wanted to express it. Also, you must try to play this When Will I Get My First Kiss Quiz.
When Will I Get My First Kiss Quiz
It’s unclear why, as significant as the first kiss is to many individuals, psychology has tended to ignore the whole thing. Indeed, there is little research on kissing in general, whether between long-term loving partners or between dating couples exploring their new feelings for each other. Perhaps it’s just assumed that everyone feels the same way about kissing (i.e., it’s essential), and thus there won’t be many variations in the predictors, correlates, or outcomes of this form of physical affection.
Eva Lefkowitz and colleagues (2018) at the University of Connecticut chose to investigate the first kiss, or at least memories of the first kiss, as a reflection of an individual’s personality. Recognizing that the first kiss (in most people) is associated with adolescence, the UConn writers saw its time and context as reflecting the development of the psychosocial traits of identity and intimacy.
Kissing at any age, when it’s between people who don’t already have a sexual relationship, “affords many of the pleasant characteristics of other (forms of physical closeness) without the risk of sexually transmitted infection and/or pregnancy,” according to the research team.” Kissing is regarded a “positively valenced conduct in and of itself” within relationships, according to the authors, and is linked to relationship satisfaction and commitment in adolescence and adulthood.”
About the quiz
People who start the kissing game late may be avoiding this type of commitment, especially if they wait until they’re well into their college years. The delay in the first kiss, then, may have substantial psychological implications, and this was the study’s focus.
Lefkowitz and her colleagues wanted to know the psychological, motivational, and demographic predictors of the age of the first kiss among their sample of ethnically varied average-age students, in addition to determining the age of the first kiss. As they point out, from a motivational standpoint, you may want to kiss your adolescent love interest because you have a genuine desire to do so, or you may simply be curious. These internally driven incentives differ from those influenced by peer pressure and conformity.
Other predictors of the age of the first kiss explored in the study were the religious background of the family and the general quality of relationships, self-esteem, alcohol use, and academic experiences. Body image and body mass index (BMI) were also investigated as indicators of the age of the first kiss.
