Dr. Nakabachi’s time travel seminar attracts Rintaro Okabe, a self-proclaimed mad scientist, and his childhood friend Mayuri Shiina to Akihabara’s Radio Kaikan building in the summer of 2010. Rintaro encounters Kurisu Makise, a female who claims to have met him 15 minutes before, despite Rintaro never having met her. Rintaro discovers Kurisu lying in a pool of blood after receiving a jumbled video message on his phone.
“Future Gadget Laboratory” is working on a phone-controlled microwave that transforms bananas into gelatinous form. Rintaro is astonished to find out later that the seminar he was attending has been canceled, as though it never happened. Kurisu is still alive and well when Rintaro and Daru attend a forum. Rintaro discovers that the e-mail he sent Daru about Kurisu’s stabbing came five days earlier.
Rintaro is embarrassed by Kurisu after he is surprised to find her alive during a lecture on the impossibility of time travel. Mr. Braun Tennji, Rintaro’s landlord, hires Suzuha Amane to work in his electronics shop as a part-time employee. Further investigation reveals that a man named John Titor, who claimed in 2000 to be a time traveler, had appeared in 2010 under a different name. In 2000, Rintaro was astonished to discover that every evidence of Titor’s appearance 2000 had vanished.

Dr. Nakabachi refuses to attend the meeting, Ontario attends in spite of himself and implies that Dr. Tito’s thesis was the source of Dr. Nakabachi’s ideas. Kurisu Makise, a 17-year-old female scientist, stops him before he can do further damage.
It doesn’t take long for him to discover Kurisu Makise in a pool of her own blood. It is only after he is accompanied by Mayuri that he manages to escape the building. A text message is sent from Rintaro to his coworker Daru (Hashida ITaru). Once a crowded and dynamic crosswalk in Akihabara, the crosswalk was now isolated when the send button was pressed.
