PRIMARY GODS
There is at least one primal god in almost every mythology. Some people have a lot. Primordial gods exist as the unfathomable power that created the world, preceding the more human-like deities who today comprise the pantheon.
They include Ymir from Norse mythology, Pangu from Chinese mythology, and Chaos from Greek mythology. In some form of creation myth, these gods created the cosmos. Some primordial gods, such as the Greek Nyx, who dwell in a physical location, may have some human form, but others may not (Gaia is literally the Earth, and Ymir forms the components of the universe). Primordial gods could be the literal manifestations of notions like day and night, darkness and light, chaos and order, time, death, or the world itself. Mortals have no way of knowing what motivates them.
GODS OF CELESTIAL POWER
The cosmological bodies of the universe are personified or controlled by celestial gods. The sun (Apollo), the moon (Selene), the stars (Asteria), the planets, the sky, or the underworld are examples of these. Celestial gods and primeval gods may have some overlap. The crucial contrast is that these deities most likely walk in human form at times, have human-like emotions, and influence but do not physically make up the entity they personify.
