Villain Test – Which Villain Are You?

Take this Villain Test to find out which villain you are. We update the quiz regularly and it’s the most accurate among the other quizzes.

So we come to the villain you chose as the best of all time. Darth Vader frequently appears at the top of these rankings, as the character has had a far greater influence than the bomb that destroyed Alderaan. Sure, the discoveries from his younger years didn’t help or hurt the mythos, but they also didn’t hurt it. Vader’s journey, a mix of sad figures and malevolent presence take all the great twists and turns, even ending in redemption with the help of Mark Hamill’s Luke. The huge V stalks across the screen, inspiring awe in every shot, with the imposing presence of David Prowse and the booming voice of James Earl Jones. He also sports a mean cape, something few men can pull off.

Editor’s Picks

From his origins as a lunatic in comic books to the campy iteration brought to movie and TV screens by Cesar Romero, The Joker has always been a figure of fun (h/t Mark Hamill’s cartoon portrayal). Tim Burton and Jack Nicholson found some darker hues in the 1989 big-screen re-invention, but Chris Nolan and Heath Ledger found the proper form for the character when he entered the more grounded film universe in The Dark Knight in 2008. To paraphrase Michael Caine’s Alfred, Ledger’s Joker is a thing of ugly beauty, a man who will do everything to attain his goals and simply wants to watch the world burn.

Villain Test

Even in the MCU, which is brimming with charismatic, funny heroes, there’s a possibility for a villain to create a bigger impression. So it was with Tom Hiddleston’s spiteful, scheming adoptive Asgardian son, Odinson by accident rather than birth. He was fantastic in the original Thor, and he brightened up several scenes in The Dark World, but he truly shone in Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble. Both Hiddleston and Loki’s cinematic creators recognized the potency of the classic cunning “British” – he’s from another realm, remember – villain, and with Whedon, he also got to shine comedically. The punchlines worked, his comeuppance (“puny god”) was entertaining, and he comes with a solid narrative and character arc that kept things interesting even in the joke-heavy Thor: Ragnarok. “Let me count to three.” There will be no four.” Alan Rickman, possibly the most ideal mix of voice and face on screen for a villain, added something extremely distinctive to Hans Gruber. Gruber is a cultured, devious villain who can improvise and change the situation even when his initial plan is jeopardized by a bothersome, barefoot NYPD cop (Bruce Willis’ John McClane). It doesn’t hurt that writers Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza gave him some very memorable dialogue. His delivery is precise, betraying his theatrical experience, and adds weight to what Hans says. And all great villains require a heroic defeat; few fall as Gruber does.

About the quiz

Both Brian Cox and Mads Mikkelsen have given memorable performances to Robert Harris’ murdering gastronome, but Anthony Hopkins elevated Hannibal to legendary status. Most great villains are defined by their actions, but what makes Hopkins so frightening is his quiet. Through hardened glass, he strips away the layers of Jodie Foster’s Starling with softly murmured words. Lecter’s atrocities are implied rather than demonstrated, yet his tongue is as lethal as a blade or bullet. Despite being somewhat diluted by Ridley Scott’s Hannibal and Brett Ratner’s Red Dragon, Hannibal Lecter remains a compelling antagonist.

Appearing in a film series alongside Palpatine and, especially, Darth Vader is enough to give anyone performance anxiety. But Kylo Ren, as played by Adam Driver, has evolved into far more than his derided emo baddie persona could have predicted. In just two short flicks, he’s matured into a focused, lethal character who understands his path and would go to any length to win. Sure, Darth Vader blew up planets, choked adversaries to death, and killed Obi-Wan, but Kylo “Ben Solo” Ren murdered his own father in cold blood.
