Monster High live-action TV movie musical production has begun, according to Mattel and Nickelodeon. The Monster High live-action film will be joined by a new animated series set in the same universe, both of which will premiere in 2022. Garrett Sander and his twin brother Darren designed the first characters. In order to explore the style, the Sander brothers went shopping with girls and saw them purchasing Goth fashion accessories such as skulls, chains, and black clothing. They observed that because the characters are monsters, they have more leeway to do things that ordinary children cannot. Other sources of inspiration include children’s fascination with Tim Burton and Lady Gaga.
Mattel’s design vice president at the time, Kiyomi Haverly, stated “To be honest, we were taken aback. We had recently realized that girls were interested in deeper Goth attire.” Garrett Sander designed the dolls, which were illustrated by Kellee Riley.
