King Kong is the film I regard to be the foundational film of the sound age on good days and Citizen Kane on bad days. King Kong, despite its naivete and awe-inducing effect in that age of technical perfection, is not anything I despise. Rather than the psychological conundrum of “Kane,” this low-budget monster movie paved the stage for today’s period of extraordinary effects, science fiction, and constant shocks.

As a result of Willis O’Brien’s pioneering visual effects, King Kong was a milestone American monster picture produced in 1933. Actress Fay Wray became an international star as a result of her role in the picture.
