What Causes the Varieties in Butt Shapes?

The fundamental framework for your body form is created by your skeletal structure, and the overall shape that you end up with is decided by the distribution of fat and muscle on top of your skeleton. The biggest determinant that determines the shape of your buttocks is your pelvis, followed by your fat distribution, which is mostly genetically determined.

Where, after all, do ‘Butt Shape’ categories come from?

Just so you know, I’m not making this stuff up! The classification of something as obscure as butt shapes appear to have originated in the realm of cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic surgeons who do treatments such as buttock augmentation, liposuction, and the like ended up classifying most women into one of four primary butt shape types.

That’s not to say there aren’t other types/categories, but these appear to be the most well-known.

Some argue that there are more forms, but it’s sometimes preferable to keep things simple, so we’ll stick to the classic four in this post.

The Square “H” Form

This form is caused by either taller, more noticeable hip bones (you may even have hip dips) or a fat distribution in the ‘love handle’ area. The overall effect is that the butt seems square and more like a straight up-and-down right below your waist rather than tapering to the waist with a nice curve.

About the quiz

Round “C” or “O” Form

A round butt shape, sometimes known as bubble butts due to their round appearance, is distinguished by a fat distribution over the cheeks of the butt – including the upper portion of the cheeks, which gives a rounded aspect when viewed from behind. When viewed from the side, this shape frequently sits high and is fairly perky and full.

The Heart/Pear “A” Form

The heart or pear shape is the most feminine of the butt shapes and is caused by fat distribution over the lower area of the butt and thighs. This results in a more tapered appearance from the waistline to the bottom of the buttock (thus the “A” shape or “upside down heart” description).

Inverted “V” Form

The V shape is more frequent in elderly women, since reduced estrogen levels cause fat storage to migrate from the buttocks to the belly. This might result in an inverted form, with the base of the butt being less plump than the top. Perhaps as a result, this butt shape is also linked to sagging.
