Three witch sisters who were murdered in Salem in 1693 return to wreak havoc 300 years later on Halloween in the Disney film “Hocus Pocus,” released in 1993. It is a cultural landmark rather than just a classic. It was only moderately successful when it was first released, but it quickly became popular on home video and cable. Many families now watch it every year, and parents who enjoyed it in the 1990s pass it forward to the younger generation. Through the use of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a sort of witchy Three Stooges, Disney managed to strike the perfect balance between the eerie and the ludicrous. Nearly 30 years later, “Hocus Pocus 2” should please fans of all ages as it pays homage to the original while also incorporating some welcome diversity, a few subtle updates, and a lack of certain violent content. The always terrifying Doug Jones, the talented performer behind the creature in “The Shape of Water” and Abe in “Hellboy,” is part of the adult cast from the original film and plays the helpless zombie Billy Butcherson. Cassie Traske, a daughter of the overbearing Mayor Jeffrey Traske, was very close with Becca and Izzy. that is, until she recently started dating Mike. As Cassie spends more time with her lover, Buckingham notes that she still misses Becca and Izzy, who have been her closest friends for as long as she can remember. She is nice and good-natured but struggles to communicate with people closest to her, making it difficult for her to express her actual feelings for the two girls.
Gilbert (Sam Richardson)
The original Sanderson mansion, which has been transformed into a museum and gift shop, is now known as the Olde Salem Magic Shoppe, and Gilbert is both its curator and proprietor. In the Fall 2022 issue of Disney Twenty-Three, Escobedo claims that Gilbert is a “huge, big fan” of the sisters. In actuality, Gilbert is the one who offers the Black Flame Candle to Becca and Izzy and informs them that a witch gains her powers on her 16th birthday. Escobedo claims that lighting it and resurrecting the witches is an accident because “they don’t know what they’re doing.”
