Orlando
Oliver’s younger brother and Sir Rowland de Bois’s youngest child. Orlando is a handsome young man who has languished without a gentleman’s education or training due to his brother’s carelessness. Nevertheless, he believes that he has a lot of promise, and his victory over Charles confirms this. Orlando shows himself to be a gentleman by taking care of the elderly Adam in the Forest of Ardenne and then putting his life in danger to save Oliver from a hungry lioness. Duke Senior
the dukedom where the play is set’s legitimate ruler and the father of Rosalind. Duke Senior is currently living in exile in the Forest of Ardenne with a number of devoted men, including Lord Amiens and Jaques, after being exiled by his usurping brother, Frederick. Since Senior tends to make the best of whatever life throws at him, we get the impression that he did not put up much of a battle to maintain his dukedom. Duke Senior establishes himself as a caring and impartial leader by being content in the forest, where he asserts that he can learn just as much from rocks and brooks as he would in a temple or a library.
