Based on Sherryl Woods’ Sweet Magnolias novels, this Netflix series follows the lives of three lifelong friends as they face various trials and tribulations in South Carolina. Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) is a divorcee with three children and a new spa to manage. Last season, she fell for Cal Maddox, a hot high school baseball coach (and former pro athlete) (Justin Bruening). Then there’s Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott), Sullivan’s owner and head chef. She is estranged from her husband, Ronnie (Brandon Quinn), and has a strong-willed daughter named Annie (Anneliese Judge). And then there’s Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), a strong-willed attorney who isn’t waiting for a man to catch up to her in order to start a family of her own. How did Season 1 of Sweet Magnolias end?
Lordy, it ended with a lot of cliffhangers in May 2020. Helen decided to see a fertility doctor after splitting up with her wishy-washy ex Ryan. Erik, Sullivan’s chef, could be her new love interest. Concerning the Sullivans, Dana Sue is putting pressure on Ronnie to finalize their divorce so she can apply for a loan and buy out her former business partner. And Maddie and Cal had a miscommunication when she assumed he wanted her son Ty to prioritize baseball over college.
