Anime and manga versions of Atsushi Okubo’s Soul Eater were huge hits in the late 2000s. Manga Entertainment released the series on DVD back in the day, and now they’re bringing it on Blu-ray. Despite being almost 10 years old, I was astonished by how well it holds up and found it to be more enjoyable than many of the longer-running shonen episodes I’ve seen in recent years.
There are magic and witches in this world, and certain people are born with the capacity to morph into weapons. Shinigami, or Lord Death, runs Death City’s Death Weapon Meister Academy, where meisters are taught to combat witches and the evil of this world. Mastery of the Death Scythe, Lord Death’s personal weapon, requires the consumption of 99 corrupted souls and one witch.
The story follows Maka Albarn and her huge scythe weapon, the soul-eating Soul Eater. Their only problem is finding and seizing the witch’s soul, which is required to complete their goal. Once in Italy, the pair becomes caught in the complicated machinations of the terrible witch Medusa, whose purpose is to reawaken the Kishin, an ancient demon who grew mad after eating innocent human souls.

Before I started reading Soul Eater, I was aware that it had a sequel, Not. I have no idea what this series was about. Prior to Ohkubo’s permission to serialize them, they were one-shots.) I liked the first one (featuring Maka and Soul), but the second and third ones puzzled me with their peculiarities. This results in Black Star’s lack of stealth and Death Kid’s immobility. However, if you’re looking for more of an action-packed shounen adventure, this manga is a letdown.
In comparison to other Shonen Jump series, such as Naruto or Blue Exorcist, the opening chapter has a distinctly less impact. The biggest fight of Maka and Soul is against a cat. Also, you will find out which Soul Eater character are you in this quiz.
In the end, Death and his two firearms Liz and Patty face up against Maka the scythe master with Soul as her weapon. All of them wind up taking remedial classes, and the seven of them become friends as a result of their shared experience. It’s not until the series reaches its 10th chapter that we get to meet more of the pupils at Soul Eater High School.
Strangely, the manga presents the new characters as though they’ve been around for a while, giving them a brief introduction. Because of this, they wind up taking on a large amount of the professors’ original relevance.

Although Asura has grown in strength, the Meisters and their weapons are still in conflict with one another. Maka defeats Asura by punching him in the face — not because of a particular weapon skill, but because of the courage in her heart.
Soul Eater manga is for those who have finished the anime and want to know what happened in the midst. Maka, Soul, Kid, and Crona would have been stronger characters if the anime had not modified a number of features.
Maka is a strong female heroine in and of herself, as evidenced by her alliance with Soul in manufacturing a Death Scythe (another element the anime leaves out). But Medusa and Asura’s defeat is essential to Crona’s narrative.
