After a less stellar episode last week, Glee was a wonderful return to its shape last night, like it was slipping under inviting, warm clothing. It’s unfortunately like slipping under a cozy blanket, because this was Glee’s 2nd episode, that someone will come home to confiscate and likely burn in a week, but we won’t have it all, eh.
Finally, it’s Sectional Week, a lot of serious choreography talk, probably one of my fave Glee things. Mr. Schue has dancing movements called. Super Gay Warbler (this is the real name of the character, and everything is stated in his contract) calls the New Guidance guys for their ability to dance. Spencer tries to blame Roderick, but both admit it is necessary to practice and try to better most of the rest of the show.

It sounds like a very easy story, it was, but it was strange too. It was very strange. When you see Spencer and Roderick together, it is evident that without a glee club they would never have been friends (like Kurt and Finn on the way back) but you can also understand how much they care for one another now.

Cassandra July was just totally inept as an adversary. As Rachel’s dancing professor at the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts. The needed step up in overall talent between Lima and NYADA never really occurred. The new university environment was far too big to actually use it as a source of new stories. So we never felt really challenged Rachel, other from the double arbitrariness of the mystical pronouncements of Carmen Tibideaux and the irrational and unprofessional resentment of Cassandra July.
In a sense, it made the character a little more interesting because she was not all that talented at singing and dance. As if from the beginning she knew Rachel couldn’t beat on these terms. She was tragic, but all concealed depth was abandoned when the golden heart was ultimately disclosed and her whole arc of character was consigned to the file of “Might-as-well-not-have-bothered.”
