With its original material, Peacock has had a difficult time. Apart from its nostalgia-like restart of “Saved By the Bell,” the remainder of the original slate of Peacock has not attracted public attention — but with the premiere of “Girls5Eva” that would have changed. Although we peddle our collective passion for girl groups and music in the ’90s and early ’00s, in the same way, creator Meredith Scardino tells us a hilarious and sweet story that grows up but still wants the comfort of the past.

First is the sweet-but-dim Summer (Philipps), of which Kev (Black Monday’s Andrew Rannells) boy band spouse arrives only from his job in Florida on “the 31st of each month, one of them has.” Gloria (Pell), a successful dentist who is formerly closed, gets the honor of being half the first homosexual couple to divorce in New York. Then Wickie (Goldsberry), a mega mogul “Fempire” who has suddenly quit the gang and with every word shears fabulousness.

Probably they’d never heard about Byron, but who cares? Precious few of the famous nowadays have. They’re too busy chasing notoriety to read, not to mention the fact that the obscurity lurks a breath away from the hemisphere of renown. But we do have a great knowledge of the mountain of dust born around the end of the 1700s. Fame may be fat, but the celebration’s quest is enduring. . – Five-Eva, maybe.
