Brooklyn Nine-Nine does not require much background to get into NBC police humor. It’s not precisely Westworld, plot-wise. You absolutely need to know that sitcom depicts the feats of a police station which, in some aspects, are absolute super cops and stupid morons.
But this does not mean that much can be learned from the background of these well-meaning and yet faulty detectives. Brooklyn Nine-Nine starts on the day the team receives Captain Raymond Holt as a new commanding officer (Andre Braugher). The Holt method is a slight shock to the squad that was used to their previous C.O., captain McGinty’s strong disgust (Mike Hagerty). Furthermore, through flashbacks, we learn that McGinty controlled the detectives, including “fire-extinguishing races” at work. Also, one of the first demands Holt, however, was to demand that Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) begin to wear a tie.

Captain Raymond Holt was just what the Nine-Nine needed from its very first day at work. He was the most popular person among his viewers and colleagues with his monotonous deliveries, his participation in Halloween Heists, and the affection of pet Corgi Cheddar.
