In reality, I would describe the whole final as follows: Strange and unforeseen. Emotional and emotional, too. Some really touching moments (the Felicity meeting with Mia, Roy, and Thea), some interesting moments (Diggle collecting that luminous green box of the rooms); and some which made me scratch my head (the return of the documentary crew, the flashbacks). I really appreciate the last scene, which seemed more than one, and I enjoyed the end to put a button on the whole subject of the episode. “Green Arrow & The Canaries,” a prospective Arrow spin-off backdoor pilot, surely accomplished its major goal: I’m excited to watch a whole show. The episode builds on what Arrow has already done and offers various new things and creates some pretty interesting questions. It did not feel as though we were headed for the final series when it finished. I still had enough fun to look at it, though. Let’s just dig in.
It was a big decision to start the hour with Laurel; this is Katie Cassidy’s time very much. Sure it is an ensemble show, but Cassidy dominates every moment as Earth-2-Laurel and brings the already lively act together with her humorous and snarking performance. Cassidy seemed to have the time of her life all through the program.
