Quarantine
If you have been in close contact (within 6 feet of someone for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who has COVID-19, quarantine yourself unless you have been properly vaccinated. Unless they develop symptoms, people who are completely vaccinated do not need to quarantine after having contact with someone who has COVID-19. However, even if they do not have symptoms, fully vaccinated people should get tested 5-7 days after their exposure and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days after exposure or until their test result is negative.

What should I do?

  • Stay at home for 14 days after your last encounter with someone infected with COVID-19.
  • Keep an eye out for COVID-19 signs such as fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms.
  • Stay away from persons you live with if at all possible, especially those who are at a higher risk of being very ill with COVID-19.
  • Following quarantine
  • Keep an eye out for symptoms for 14 days following exposure.
  • If you experience symptoms, you should immediately separate yourself and call your local public health authority or healthcare professional.

  • What should I do?
  • Keep track of your symptoms. If you experience an emergency warning sign (such as difficulty breathing), get emergency medical attention right away.
  • If feasible, stay in a separate room from the rest of the family.
  • If feasible, use a separate bathroom.
  • Avoid contact with other family members and pets.
  • Personal home things such as cups, towels, and cutlery should not be shared.
  • If possible, wear a mask when around other individuals.
  • Learn what to do if you become ill and how to alert your contacts.

When you don’t need to isolate yourself
