My Candy Love Quiz – Which Character Are You?

By:

Take this My Candy Love Quiz to find out which character you are. We update the quiz regularly and it’s the most accurate among the other quizzes.

Okay, so I’m new to the whole critiquing thing. I’m sure I’ll get used to it with time, but for now, I’ll just plunge in at random and see where it takes me. Take what you will from it.

MCL is an online otome game in which you guide your own Candy through the high-school drama and assist her in finding love with the guy(s) of your choice.

Editor’s Picks

Overall, MCL is extremely lighthearted but pretty plotless, so it’s a good time-killer if you’re up about 11 p.m. (UTC06:00) when the action points refresh, as I typically am. On the plus side, practically all of the game’s action is initiated by Candy, which means she isn’t being dragged around by males like many other heroines. Sadly, while this may not apply to feminism, the plot is mostly driven by Candy’s unquenchable thirst for gossip and drama. She exemplifies the term “busybody.” Given that it’s high school, it’s not too far-fetched, although she might not be everyone’s cup of tea as a heroine. Gender Representative:

This game takes the cake when it comes to the number of girls and women present in an otome game. To date (Ep 16), there are 15 main female characters, not counting Candy. That’s 54% of the main NPC cast in a genre obsessed with reverse-harems! It’s unclear whether any of the ladies are cisgender or not, but because the existence of an intersex/trans*/genderqueer character hasn’t been publicly confirmed, I’m going to presume they’re all meant to be female women, which means MCL falls flat on its face in terms of representation.

Rep for Sexuality:

On MCL, non-heterosexuality is seen as a “sensitive topic,” and discussion of it is highly forbidden. Topics concerning it are closed, and players who commit multiple infractions are warned. However, within the confines of the narrative storyline, your Candy cannot be bi/pan. Unfortunately, the moderators have said numerous times that MCL has no plans to widen our Candy’s sexual variety. If you ask me, it’s a pretty big slap in the face for feminism.

I should have screencapped more responses when I had the chance, but here’s one example of a moderator’s response to our Candy’s ability to date other girls:

About the quiz

On MCL, there is a gay character, but his homosexuality is designed to be a downer. It’s a shame he’s gay since it means you (and another female who likes him) won’t be able to have him. I can’t fully recall the dialogue, but if I recall correctly, it all focused around this big “GOTCHA!” gag or else made his homosexuality appear odd, ridiculous, or awkward.

A rep for the Race:

Another issue that MCL should do better in dealing with is racism. There are only three known non-white characters (it’s speculated that there are more, but I have no verifying sources), and while you may make your Candy seem Asian, you can’t modify her skin color. Despite the huge popularity of the notion among players, MCL mods have claimed that the team has no plans to implement a skin-changing option. The common justification for this decision is that it would be “very difficult” to color all of those distinct skins into the final images. Episodes would take longer to complete, the artist would be exhausted, and every pony you’ve ever loved would perish in a fire.
