Just in time for this year’s Marché du Film in Cannes, Studio 100 Media’s much awaited animated movie The Hero of Centopia has completed production and is prepared for delivery (May 17-25).
The film, which is based on the hugely successful CGI/live-action TV series Mia and Me and the hugely popular and well-known brand, will debut in theaters for the first time on May 26 in Germany, Austria, and German-speaking Switzerland, followed by France, Spain, and French-speaking Switzerland on July 20, Hungary on August 11, and Bulgaria on September 23 of 2022.
The film will have its debut international screenings at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 at 9:30 a.m. (Palais C) and May 18 at 1:45 p.m. before being released throughout Europe (Palais D).
Studio 100 Media GmbH, Studio B Animation Pty Ltd, and Broadvision Services Private Ltd. collaborated to create The Hero of Centopia. Martin Krieger, Thorsten Wegener, Barbara Stephen, and Sriram Chandrasekaran are the executive producers. The company handling foreign sales is Studio 100 Film.
With nations like Latin America, Taiwan, Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria, and the Balkans on board, international sales are still expanding. The U.S. distribution rights to the movie have been purchased by Los Angeles-based distributor Viva Kids, who intends to distribute it in 2023.

Firstly, congratulations on your most recent film. Could you briefly describe how you were associated with this project?
Thorsten Wegener: Mia and Me had already achieved popularity on a global scale and was very well-liked when Studio 100 Media bought m4e, the business that developed, produced, and released the TV program, back in 2017. We always thought this was a top-notch brand that merited a movie adaption because of its production value, the vibrant characters, gorgeous unicorns, and artistic concepts. It was so strong, in fact, that we chose to create a fourth season of Mia and Me. This brought the endeavor full circle by paving the way for the next obvious step, which was to make a movie.
When did you begin the job, and when will the finished product be available?
We had been thinking about making a movie for Mia and Me for a very long time. But the genuine idea wasn’t born until Studio 100 collaborated with the show’s creator, Gerhard Hahn, to develop the script for the film. The global pandemic presented challenges to the project, which was launched in June 2019, but we are pleased that it was finished in April and is now prepared for delivery.
