Marmaduke Quiz – Which Character Are You?

By:

Take this Marmaduke Quiz to find out which character you are. We update the quiz regularly and it’s the most accurate among the other quizzes.

Dogs are mute. We are aware of this. In the movies, dogs can speak. We are also aware of this. But when we see them lip-syncing to their dialogue, it’s downright grotesque. The best approach is that of “Garfield,” in which we see the cat and hear Bill Murray, but there is no-nonsense about Garfield’s mouth moving.

Editor’s Picks

I knew I was in trouble the moment I saw Marmaduke’s drooling lips move. There’s nothing subtle about a Great Dane with a lot on his mind, especially when he’s the film’s narrator and never stops talking. And when his master Phil relocates the Winslow family from Kansas to Orange County and he joins the crowd at a vegetarian pet food company’s dog park, well, what can I say about a film in which dogs (and a cat) have more speaking parts than humans? Marmaduke Quiz

This is a lighthearted PG-rated animal comedy. If you like the comic strip, which is now in its 56th year, you might like it. Marmaduke’s personality is nowhere near as appealing as Garfield’s. If it’s the personality you’re looking for, perhaps you shouldn’t be considering a lip-synched talking-animal comedy in the first place.

The story. Marmaduke enjoys his new backyard in California, but gets into trouble with his family for a stupid reason and flees. Mazie, the collie he’s been dating at the park, goes looking for him, and it rains, and Marmaduke gets lost, and his family piles into the station wagon and searches as well, and — long story short — they all end up where a burst sewer has caused a large sinkhole (although not as big as the one in Guatemala). Mazie falls in, Marmaduke jumps in after her, they’re swept into a sewer, they emerge in an aqueduct, Phil Winslow (Lee Pace) jumps in, and so on.

About the quiz

Great Danes can be best friends, but they are not natural comedians. Mazie is stereotyped as a sexy collie; couldn’t a pug play the female lead in a non-traditional casting? And, while we’re on the subject, why is William H. Macy the owner of the pet food company? If you like Macy, you can imagine dozens of ways he could be amusing as a pet food magnate. The film avoids all of them by having him play the role of a businessman in the middle. So, why did you hire Macy in the first place?

And then… but enough of that. Why am I writing, and why are you reading, a review of a movie about talking animals? It might appeal to small children. It isn’t offensive. Marmaduke isn’t particularly photogenic in my opinion, but that’s just me. Great Danes appear to have extra elbows. The film receives two stars. It could have done better had Marmaduke kept his big mouth shut.
