Severus Snape began as a true Death Eater, proving himself helpful by informing Voldemort of the prophecy. Snape was already gifted as a Hogwarts student, hence he was most likely a formidable Death Eater. He showed his real usefulness, though, when he switched sides to assist Dumbledore in protecting Harry from Voldemort.
Snape infiltrated the Death Eaters, working against them at every opportunity while remaining undetected. He played every other Death Eater like a violin, even tricking the Dark Lord. He was powerful enough to not only set Dumbledore’s plans in motion but also to make it appear that they were all in the service of Voldemort.
Bellatrix is terrifying in every way, from her ardent loyalty to Voldemort to her smiling cruelty and delight of inflicting suffering on others. She refused to accept the Dark Lord had been defeated, so she went in pursuit of him and assaulted the Longbottoms.
Which Death Eater Are You?
In warfare, she always had the upper hand. Even when defeated, she was able to eliminate Harry’s most powerful supporters, as she is personally responsible for the deaths of Sirius Black and Dobby. Throughout her appearances, she was always the main menace, a menacing presence that Harry could never completely overcome (though Molly Weasley could!). Barty Crouch, Jr. portrayed the innocently confused youngster so convincingly that it took everyone by surprise when it was revealed that he was a loyal and exceptionally competent Death Eater. Barty was the one who kidnapped and imprisoned the nearly unbeatable Mad-Eye Moody. Barty then pretended to be Moody for nearly a year, escaping detection even from Dumbledore until Voldemort had already won.
From the shadows, he organized Harry’s victory in the Triwizard Tournament, all while maintaining Moody’s mask. He was also an excellent Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor, teaching Harry how to resist the Imperius Curse. Barty Crouch, Jr. was always far more powerful than he gave the impression.
About the quiz
Because of the pureblood distaste for werewolves, Fenrir Greyback was never allowed to be a complete Death Eater, but that didn’t stop him from being exceedingly terrifying. Even Dumbledore stated that he was afraid of being handed over to Greyback because of his animalistic savagery.
Greyback left his imprint throughout the novel, transforming Remus Lupin into a werewolf, scarring Bill Weasley for life, and claiming countless more victims. At other times, he was shocked or restrained, but he was frequently targeted first since he was the most visible threat in the room. Greyback’s presence was always felt when he was a part of a Death Eater onslaught.
Corban Yaxley avoided battle as much as possible, preferring to rule the Ministry of Magic from a safe distance. When Yaxley displayed his abilities, he was a wizard to be reckoned with. He cast the Imperius Curse on Pius Thicknesse and held it on him for the duration of the conflict.
He ruled the Ministry with an iron fist, relentlessly hunting down Muggle-born wizards with Thicknesse as his puppet Minister. Voldemort tasked Yaxley with a number of risky duties, including hiring the skilled wizard Horace Slughorn. He was also a formidable duelist, having been evenly matched with Professor Flitwick during their combat.
