His final series may easily have been the penultimate episode of BoJack Horseman. It is a shallow, melancholy visualization of what appears to be his final moment of awareness, moments which conclude in blackness and a heart monitor that flattening sounds, a bizarre voyage inside BoJack’s post-overdose head. BoJack is dead, from that conclusion one may quite conclude. (Well, it can be assumed until you are sufficiently knowledgeable to see all the credits during which the flatline drone begins beeping again, a signal that after all may not have been lost).

Editor’s Picks

On the initial view, the episode implies that BoJack was eventually killed in most of Hollywood by melancholy, addiction, and harshest push, leaving him facing in the pool behind his mansion, which remembers a floating Joe Gillis murdered in Sunset Boulevard.

But this is not how BoJack Horseman ends. A whole new final episode explains that BoJack would eventually be found in the pool, recuperate in the hospital, go on trial and do jail time to break, and then be released for a night so he can go to the wedding of Princess Carolyn. At first, I was so morbid that BoJack was truly not dying, partly because I was found to be the most darling narrative option. Also, you will find out which Bojack character are you in this quiz.

This film has always known its condition as a TV show which satirizes serious counter heroic stories about guys who are ethically affected. The idea explored all season, from the underlying subject to the current one, BoJack’s truth in the detective-like Philbert was in full swing. And the end of “The View From Halfway Down,” the next to-episode of the series, complements the goal statement with a reference to some of the most famous difficult men’s shows.

“The view from halfway down” ends in blackness, like in the Sopranos final, but in the manner that lands more gravity, since it doesn’t appear unclear (even if it does end up being a bit of a fake-out). This episode echoes Mad Men even more strongly. Remember the belief that at the end of this season, Don Draper would die, the falling businessman in the Mad Men opening titles serves as a premonition. This kind of thing happened in BoJack Horseman: The opening titles of the show have over the years exchanged some of their images—for example, in the final season a photo montage in BoJack’s lifestyle This Is Your Life—but they involve BoJack falling in and landing in a pool, then looking at the affected faces of Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter from outside the water. In that time, you may call a view from the middle.

About the quiz

Many BoJack fans would probably think the last episode of the series ‘The View from the Halfway Down’ was the final one. This episode had BoJack talk with influential figures of his past, some of whom he never really met, in a dream state and death transition. And while cathartic (and sometimes horrendous with some strange animation and effects), the episode finishes with a question mark: Is BoJack Horseman dead?

Had the writers gone all the sopranos with it, there is where we would have snagged: a final shot in the pool of Hollywood’s former home of the main character, a la Sunset Blvd. But when Raphael Bob-Waksberg decided to proceed to a finish more appropriate to The Shield, this was no song by BoJack or swan-person. The finish, “Nice While It Dured,” begins with a quickfire installation that brings us to the stage and a few of our expectations. There are several teases that we want to play with before we say that BoJack is alive, nope. The precarious son of the family living there mostly drowned him in the pool of his previous house, and he enjoyed his renown 15 minutes after he had located the missing if not flailing celebrité to coin the “BoJeebie.” However, this is only the point of the insult iceberg: this child is not only highlighted because BoJack is turned over to a minor headline in the tabloids but then the revived horse-man is sentenced to 14 months in a super-max prison (which is one of the many pause and inspection scenarios in the series as a whole). It seems to be a rather tough punishment for a drunken break and go, but it is also penance for a litany of sins BoJack has paid over the years.
