About the quiz

Users are archetypal users whose objectives and features represent the demands of a broader set of users. In a one or two-page document, a person is usually shown (like the one you can see in the example below). These 1–2-page descriptions cover patterns of behavior, goals, skills, behaviors and background information, and the context in which a person functions. Designers typically generate templates for users personally, including a few fictional personal details that make the person a real character (e.g. quotes from real users) and contextual information (for instance, it makes sense to include a person’s financial sophistication and significant expenses for a banking app).

Users assist designers to shape and support product strategy during usability tests. A profound understanding of user behavior and needs allows one to define for whom and what is necessary or superfluous for a product from a user-focused viewpoint. This enables product teams to priority requests for functionality (for example, features can be prioritized based on how well they address the needs of a primary persona). You can also contribute to settling debates about design decisions – instead of saying, ‘I think that the ‘Send’ button is too small,’ a designer could reply, ‘We have to create greater targets to reduce interaction costs, because our principal person, Carolyn, always uses a mobile phone.’
