“Why women kill” has been found out by audiences for more than a year. Three women from 3 distinct periods, all in the first season with one objective in mind: killing their husbands, airing on the then CBS All Access, now Paramount+. This sitcom by Marc Cherry, the creator of “Desperate Housewives” had a bitchy attitude comparable to fans of the former ABC series.
In the 1950s, the 1980s, and today the first season, Los Angeles, a glamorous world for some, holds steadfastly to this season in 1949. A lonely housewife with a garden as her prize-winning property is Alma Fillcot (Allison Tolman). She is looking forward to joining the Elysian Park Garden Club but cannot compete in particular with the (slim) women of means (Lana Parrilla).
Continuation and simplification clearly work for the benefit of “Why Women Kill” in this season. Season 1 gives us a number of referrals to the original, which mostly reminds us of ‘Pusher Daisies’ by Jack Davenport, who was playing Karl Grove during the first season. “When I first presented the project, I had two separate ideas,” recalls Cherry. “In my back pocket, I had season 2. They presented a character of the serial murderer’s wife ever so briefly. I was thinking, from her point of view, I want to see a story arc. I began to get the notion of a woman who feels powerless. And unseen in the world and wants to sit very much at the cool children’s table. Like luck, she realizes that she has a tremendous instrument at her disposal for all her feeling powerless in the world.”

We see that when a nightclub singer named Maisie comes up with her sick pooch (Rachel Bay Jones). When he puts the dog to sleep, he plays soothing music that makes his dying moments “wonderful.” It’s an emotional moment to make sure that Maisie invites the gentle doc to listen to her sing that night.
Meanwhile, she employs PI Vern Loomis (Jordan Christie) to track her boyfriend, a vacuous actor named Scooter (Matthew Daddario), for whom Carlo Castillo is a wedding with age 80 (Daniel Zacapa), who believes he is in business. It turns out, but with someone unexpected: Dee Fillcot, a restaurant waitress (B.K. Cannon). Yes, it’s the daughter of Bertram and Alma.
