Undyne
Undyne is a big deal. Quite a bit. Remember that time her house caught fire during a cookery lesson? Fantastic. Undyne’s charmingly combative nature in almost everything she does (including the moment she throws a spear at you in the name of friendship) simply makes her a fun character to be around.
On the battlefield, she’s no laughing matter. Her boss battle on the run from the pacifists is the stuff of nightmares. Her sensitive side, on the other hand, is what truly distinguishes her. The fact that she teaches Papyrus to cook so he doesn’t feel bad about not joining the Royal Guard demonstrates how much she cares about her friends. And she and Alphys are the couple we DESERVE. They’re legends, to be sure.
Sans
Come on, he made it into Smash, how can you not love him? One of the game’s highlights is Sans, the interdimensional time continuum crossing (but somehow lethargic) skeleton. While his wise-cracking jokes are always delivered perfectly, he has a lot more to give than that.

Toriel
Toriel, the loveliest person in the subterranean, takes you in when you fall into the ruins. She even offers to mother you as you learn to accept your new home, which you quickly depart without reluctance. Toriel would never harm you, and all she does is to ensure that you can survive on your own in the underworld.
When a woman calls you less than an hour after meeting you to inquire which flavor of pie you prefer, how can you not adore her with all of your heart? Toriel is the heart of the Underground, and she simply wants the best for everyone around her. If her brief speech about learning how to text a smiling face doesn’t easily make you cry, you’re really just a monster who can’t be redeemed.

Papyrus
Papyrus, you’re so cute. Where do you even start with Papyrus? He’s a nice little skeleton that wants nothing more than to join the royal guard and work with Undyne, but he’s awful at his one and only objective. But, hey, he’s trying hard to improve his spaghetti! You’re excellent in Papyrus’ eyes as long as you’re continually striving to be the finest version of yourself!
He will always believe in you, no matter how little you deserve to be believed in (even if you dare to commit a great atrocity that cannot be stated here). The Great Papyrus only wants to be your friend. He’ll give you problems to solve, he’ll go on dates with you to make you happy. He even provides the jail cell in which he tries to keep you! Sure, he made the bars a little too simple to get through, but everyone makes mistakes. Papyrus is a skeleton with expectations, a skeleton that wants you to be your best, and a skeleton that wants to be your buddy. Papyrus, as The Great Papyrus that he is, should be regarded as such. If there is one thing that Undertale has given us in this life, it is the gift of Papyrus.
Alphys
Alphys is our anime-watching yellow lizard (?) queen. Alphys plays an unusual role in the story, essentially inserting herself into the action and posing problems that she and Frisk can overcome together, as described by Mettaton. While this is not admirable behavior, she does apologize.
In addition, Alphys did her best to assist the monsters of the Underground in other situations. She’s a social recluse who wants to get out of the box she’s created for herself. And what about her friendship with the next character on the list? Too adorable to put into words
