Cora becomes a juvenile misfit among the Randall Slaves when Cora’s mother, Mabel, laps away. Her slave buddy Caesar, who recognizes her spirit of independence, urges her to escape with him. Although at first, she declines, a few weeks later she takes his call.
A group of white dog hunters nearly catch them; In his cart, wrapped with a blanket, Fletcher pushes them to the station agent’s residence, Lumbly. They find the tunnel underneath Lumbly’s house, and a locomotive is transporting them to the north.
They receive fake papers to safely dwell in South Carolina until another train reaches them to the farther north. Cora however adores so much South Carolina, that she and Caesar hesitate to depart, and three trains go without boarding them.

However, at the same time, other elements of the story are brutally real and historically factual. Many tales begin with pronouncements from flighty slaves that are historically exact. The fierce violence against fleeting slaves definitely happened (and the Civil War did not put an end to this kind of racial violence). Racial, forced sterilization was also part of American history, as terrible as it may sound. The combination of imagination and history encourages readers to reflect more closely on the reprehensible occurrences in the US relationships – and those still occurring.
They may ignore things that don’t appear fair, life is much better than on the floor. Then they find out that Ridgeway, the slave catcher, arrived looking for them. Cora flees to the underground railway, but Caesar remains and the house of Sam is burned down.
The next stop of Cora is North Carolina, where the situation is significantly worse for Black people, whether freely or fugitive. Cora lives in a small hiding place in the attic of Wells, where every Friday night on Town Square she observes a dreadful spectacle.
North Carolina has tried to displace or kill Blacks all over the country, and Friday festivals are a weekly show of racist propaganda that ends with a Black person being hanged, which is a gruesome event the whole city is attending. Cora is getting better in the attic with time, but there’s no way out for her. Fiona alerts them and a party of night riders looks for the house on Friday night, discovering Cora.

Following his master Terrance Randall’s captured, fledgling slave Cora Randall and Caesar Gardner from slavery in Georgia to freedom, two young plantation slaves fled publicly. The pair put their hopes on the strange subway. This group comprises a massive system of tunnels, which are used to transfer runways not seen in the US and then finally to Canada. The organization includes an unspecified number of steam trains. Cora hits a young man with a bunch of slave catchers on her ride on her head. From then on, she was not just a wanted fugitive for murder but a fugitive for justice. Ridgeway boasts that he never evaded a runaway save Cora’s mother Mabel, who had left some fifteen years previously without a trace.
In the beginning, Cora and Caesar are treated kindly by a subway train that leads to Griffin, a (fictional) city in South Carolina. Cora obtains classes in reading and labeling while Caesar receives work as a White Scholar’s Assistant. But they realize the facts behind their amicable conduct after some time. For some odd reason, the town’s citizens solely serve Black people via forced sterilization and forced usage of drugs to control the black community. Ultimately Ridgeway knows about Griffin, and he and Homer go looking for Cora and Caesar. Cora is Homer’s discovery, but she leaves and flees the subway. In the meantime, Ridgeway corners Caesar.
