The Good House’s central character, whip-smart and gullible Realtor Hildy Good, spends a lot of time on screen tearing down walls, namely the fourth one. Such a literary trick could be distracting or outright obnoxious in less skilled hands. The movie’s eventual turn toward an addiction drama isn’t necessarily an issue, but the events that lead Hildy to a shocking moment of self-awareness come out as more of a jumble of plot devices than a compelling series of inevitable occurrences.
