You might imagine that Oda had numerous films under his belt if you did not know, “Nine days” was the debut feature of filmmaker Edson Oda. He presents with confidence his daring vision (he also wrote the script) and is brave enough to put the everlasting problems with the human condition at the core of his first film: What does it mean to live? When we are here, how do we value life? Can it be even? Oda does not shy away from these essential issues and will find a minimal amount of hokum and a minimum number of New Age bromides to address them. When it was first at Sundance last year, “Nine Days” had raves. This is such a wonderful debut.

In the conclusion, the film has transformed into a showcase of an actor with a diminutive foundation. There are surely enough questions to raise, and “Nine days” takes a laudable note about the importance of taking on unanticipated turns of life. There are no shortages of questions. But regardless of its heavenly consequences, the film can’t shake the feeling of a magnificent conception that never flew.
