What exactly is a Millennial? And who exactly is a member of Generation Z?
You may have an idea, but let’s make sure we’re all on the same page. As you might expect, defining the two generations is entirely based on dates—in this case, years. Anyone born between 1980 and 1995 is considered a Millennial. There are approximately 80 million Millennials in the United States. Anyone born between 1996 and the early-mid 2000s is considered a member of Generation Z. (end-date can vary depending on the source). There are approximately 90 million members of Gen Z, or “Gen Zers,” in the United States.

When compared to Millennials, members of Generation Z are more concerned about the cost of education (21 percent of respondents) (13 percent of respondents).
Millennials value stability (34%), whereas Generation Z is more concerned with finding their dream job (32 percent ).

What is the age range of the Millennials?
Millennials are those born between 1981 and 1997. This means that Millennials will be between the ages of 25 and 41 in 2022.
What is the age range of Generation Z?
Those born between 1997 and 2015 are considered members of Generation Z. In 2022, the age range for Gen Z’ers will be between 7 and 25 years old.

Millennials vs. Gen Z: What distinguishes these generations?
Although they all appear to be young, millennials and members of the subsequent Generation Z are markedly different in terms of how they shop, interact with brands, and view money.
More millennials than Generation Z will pay more for a better customer experience.
Millennials have higher expectations for customer service — and they’re willing to pay for it. According to one recent survey, 66 percent of Millennials and 53 percent of Gen Z said their customer experience expectations were higher than ever. Seventy-six percent of Millennials said they would pay more for excellent customer service (vs. 71 percent of Gen Z).
Companies should be more innovative, according to Generation Z.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Generation Z is more likely than Millennials to want new products and services (55 percent vs. 46 percent ). In addition, Gen Z is more likely than Millennials to want businesses to convert their existing products and services into digital experiences (76 percent vs. 73 percent ).
Perhaps Gen Z expects more innovation because they grew up in an era of rapid innovation. While Millennials may recall Blockbuster VHS rentals, Generation Z is perfectly at home in the overwhelmingly mobile era of YouTube, TikTok, and whatever content consumption platforms emerge next.
