Year after year, the Call of Duty franchise is a force to be reckoned with. The advent of Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale that is continually developing with new seasons and content to keep it feeling fresh, has contributed to the game’s sustained popularity. While Warzone typically ties into the themes of the game to which it is attached, currently Black Ops Cold War, Activision has made an effort to mix things up by including skins from outside the Call of Duty universe, such as Leatherface, as well as bringing back fan favorites such as Captain John Price.

Editor’s Picks

This capacity to use and create content based on player memories is strongly related to the franchise’s long-term success. In fact, Call of Duty: Vanguard appears ready to carry on that legacy, going beyond just reintroducing earlier characters. Activision may be hinting at the origins of a specific group of special-ops soldiers known as Task Force 141.

While Call of Duty: Vanguard has already been completely announced, transporting players to the last months of World War II, Activision began teasing the game in August. Fans saw a very quick image of an insignia sitting on a tree near some barbed wire in one Call of Duty: Vanguard teaser trailer released on social media. That insignia appears to represent Task Force 141’s symbol. Also, you must try to play this Call of Duty quiz.

While this could simply be a lighthearted tribute to Call of Duty’s Task Force 141 and its long history in the franchise, other fans have speculated that it could actually be a plot that chronicles the renowned group’s founding story. While Sledgehammer and Activision have been tight-lipped about any potential link, it’s highly doubtful that any of the contemporary members will appear here, as it wouldn’t make sense from an age or plot standpoint. Vanguard, on the other hand, may attempt to establish the Task Force’s roots and significance throughout the franchise’s fictitious history.

About the quiz

If the term Task Force 141 seems familiar, it’s because it was prominently featured in the first Modern Warfare series of games, which debuted in 2007. The special operations group, also known as The One-Four-One, is a multinational operation with members from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and other countries. Captain John Price, Captain John “Soap” MacTavish, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley, Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson, Joseph Allen, and Lieutenant General Shepherd are among the most renowned members.

Serving as the trilogy’s main protagonists, the squad led a variety of clandestine operations against rogue organizations, most notably against the Russian Ultranationalist known as Vladimir Makarov. Makarov, as players watched, coordinated a variety of events, including a massacre at the Zakhaev International Airport during the events of Modern Warfare 2; the attack was staged to appear to be organized by an American soldier. Makarov’s tactics eventually resulted in a full-scale invasion of the United States by Russian soldiers, setting the ground for a catastrophic betrayal.
