The film begins with a black railway crew from our hero Bart. His white executives are very racial and they obviously don’t give any respect to the life of a black person. The boss Taggart sends Bart and a friend to check out the fast sand in front of them, Bart hardly makes it live out of the fast sand. So, by bashing Taggart with a shovel, he decided to remove his frustrations.

Taggart then meets his employer, Hedley Lamarr, the government man. When Hedley knows about fast sand, he orders Taggart to travel the railroad through a town named Rock Ridge. Hedley wants to make sure his new road is no longer built delay. Taggart agrees to call up his soldiers and attack the city in the hope that the city people would be expelled.

Unhappily, Rock Ridge folks are too hesitant for Hedley Lamarr to getaway following the initial attack (which has left their town sheriff dead). By sending her Bart—a black man—as her new sheriff, Hedley tries to crush the town’s spirit. Rock Ridge’s hicks aren’t taking this concept too well and threaten to shoot Bart when they see him. But Bart utilizes his knowledge to get out of the way and get hidden within the office of the sheriff of the city. Also, you must try to play this Blazing Saddles quiz.

His willingness to accept excess was one characteristic of Brooks’ film humor. We have the famous production number ‘Springtime for Hitler’ and Zero Mostel has seduced small old women in the bushes, and Gene Wilder (again) choreographed with the Lincoln Centre’s water fountain, one of the funniest movies ever made.

And “Blazing Saddles,” except for a number of dull sections, is like this from start to finish. Only the baked bean scene qualifies the film as a type of miserable excess. Then there’s the entire Mongol company (Alex Karris), which is a sort of dim Paul Bunyan. He is on an ox, dispatched to remove Bart, but seduced in a Candygram with a black powder explosive. To explain would take too much time.

One of “The Producers”‘ criticisms was that it took far too long for “Hitler’s Spring.” Determined that “Blazing Saddles” wouldn’t conclude at a slow speed, Brooks gave it a completely unconstrained dream in Hollywood that includes a “top hat” takeoff, a Graumann Chinese Theater sequence, a pie battle, and, of course, a final sunset fade-out.

About the quiz

The screenplay by Brooks, Norman Steinberg, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, and Alan Uger (from Bergman’s story) is entirely irreverent and never misses an opportunity to poke a cliché, without sparing anything or anybody. The language is certainly R-rated, but never obnoxious. In truth, there is much loud humor in the incongruous blend of language and personalities.

The quick directing of Brooks is a marvel of comic detail, full of pleasant and precisely timed gags.

The prevailing aesthetic of the movie is one of the very wide burlesques, while it also has subtler aspects, particularly in the smart set design of Morey Hoffman and in the production design of Peter Wooley. Which Blazing Saddles character are you?

The shows are all comedic treasures, and Kormann particularly delights like Hedley Lamarr and paints a precocious brat with all the elegance. The Sheriff plays little with the correct superiority, a timid grin and a lingering glint of his eyes and the Wilder offers the gunslinger with a flawless imitation, a strongly lingering, steely blue eye with lazy self-assurance.
