“American Schönheit” is a comedy because we laugh at the nonsense of the situation of the hero. And a tragedy because we can recognize his failure—not the details, but the overall contour.

His wife is ignorant, and superfluous at work. Lester Burnham, the hero of “American Beauty,” is played by Kevin Spacey as an unloved man of his daughter. In the nearly first words of the movie, he says, “I’ll be dead in a year. ” “I am already dead in a way.” The film is his revolt narrative.

We meet Carolyn, his wife (Annette Bening), so her garden shoes are perfectly harmonized with her footwear. We meet Jane (Thora Birch) his daughter, who saves for breast implants even though it is clearly needless to increase them. “This chronic loser is my wife and my daughter both think,” moans Lester. He’s okay. But without their motivations, they aren’t. Carolyn plays Mantovanian music, mocking every bite, over an excruciating family meal, the music is luscious and comforting. The family is angry and calm. When Lester criticizes the attitude of his daughter, she correctly points out that in months dad has scarcely spoken with her.
We next move into the real plot, which centers on the life of Lester Burnham in the last year. Lester tells us in a voiceover that in the course of the year it will be dead. And when we find he’s the dad of the home movie girl, we again wonder: What type of movie? A horror film of any kind? We assumed, not American patricide, that we were observing American Beauty.
It is not a gloomy novel, though, that is centered too on killing or murdering plans (although Lester is finally smoked, certainly). In fact, this is all about Lester waking up from a life that was quite static emotionally and physically.
About the quiz
He and his wife lived the American dream almost from the outside. They have a lovely home, Jane (Thora Birch), a gorgeous daughter, and find employment. The appearance of her wonderful family/life to others is played up by Carolyn (Annette Bening), Lester’s wife.
However, in that life, we find shortly that Lester feels imprisoned and weak. He dislikes his job, and in their best days, he and Carolyn are indifferent (and openly hostile on their worst). Oh, and there’s also a bit of sex power pent up.
Things will change for Lester when he takes up a high school cheer performance from his daughter’s friend Angela (Mena Suvari). Of course, Lester considers Lester’s obvious interest in her friend totally revolting, but in her emotions, it helps Lester to awake a little. Suddenly, he knows it must not be miserable, passive, and sexless, and he begins to work out, stand before his employer, and pursue an active fantasy life. Which American Beauty character are you?
Lester is attending dancing with Carolyn at Lester sulkily’s high school daughter Jane: “What makes you so certain that she wants us? Has she asked us to come here? I missed the marathon on TNT of James Bond.”
Angela Hayes (an allusion to Nabokov’s Lolita Haze?), the best friend and fellow of Jane’s Dancing Pantherette, catapults Lester from his misfortune: “I feel like I’ve been in a coma for some twenty years, and just now I wake up” (mc growth starting)-print it for the impact of obstacle-character Ricky Fitts.
