The episode introduces us to Amaury Guichon, a 29-year-old iconic personality in the world of confectionary with a specialized in chocolate and proprietor of ‘The Pastry Academy’ in Las Vegas, who serves as our participants mentor and judge. Over the course of eight episodes, the participants face a variety of scenarios and challenges that need them to perform at their best. The first episode, though more of a warm-up, tests the participants’ ability to create illusions with chocolate, beginning with simple things like crayons and rolling pins and progressing to larger architectural structures. As the show progresses, the challenges become more difficult, such as crafting deceptive desserts, chocolate showpieces, magnificent flowers, and so on. The participants immerse in and accomplish independent assignments throughout the first half of School of Chocolate. However, by the second half, team challenges occupy the front row, beginning with the creation of a massive building constructed entirely of chocolate. Amaury selects the best of the best at the end of each challenge based on creative thought, the use of advanced skills, and, of course, a flavorful creation.
The fact that there are no elimination rounds after each challenge or episode is the best element of the show. Instead, the two chefs with the lowest scores are ordered to sit out the challenge. Meanwhile, Chef Amaury is a darling, and it’s a breath of fresh air to watch him be pleasant and encouraging of the competitors rather than the usual judge slamming them for underperforming. The series’ overall experience is one of learning and improvement, which is evident in each episode.
By the end of the show, however, there is one winner who receives a tempting prize: a $50,000 grand prize as well as the opportunity to teach an international master class at Chef Guichon’s pastry college in Las Vegas. The winner will also receive 500 pounds of Cacao Berry chocolate and a one-on-one session with Cacao Berry chefs at their facility, as well as an invitation to participate in the Charleston Food and Wine Festival. School of Chocolate, on the other hand, is Netflix’s latest reality series, which pits eight talented pastry and chocolate professionals against each other in a pressure-cooker competition.
