The Old Ones were the first race in the galaxy to achieve space-faring status; their ancestors are unknown, but it is assumed they were of reptile descent (the Old Slaan). As science progressed, they roamed the galaxy, seeding new or nurturing existing life, and many new races arose, including the Kork (Orks), Eldar, and even humanity.

They accomplished this through their tremendous mastery of the Warp, a parallel dimension made of pure changing energies in which time and space had little or no importance. A spaceship could travel thousands of light-years in this manner in a very short period of time. However, because the warp was subject to “tides” and “currents,” ships may be blown off course or have irregular journey lengths, so the Old ones built the Webway, a system of “tunnels” traversing warp space. These connected all of the Old Ones’ worlds, effectively removing the necessity for conventional space travel. Also, you must try to play this Warhammer 40k Test.

The Necrontyr were the second race to advance, a humanoid race that had short and miserable lives due to their close proximity to a particularly destructive star. To overcome this, the Necrontyr soon advanced in science in order to try to lengthen their lives, the most notable of which was a type of “living metal” from which they built their starships. However, because to their lack of comprehension of the warp, their travel across the galaxy was slow. Tensions arose among the Necrontyr’s ruling classes, and inter-faction warfare became regular. To counteract this, the Necrontyr leaders orchestrated a war against the Old Ones in order to unite their race. They could never hope to win this conflict because the Old Ones were able to outmaneuver them at every turn with their warp technology.

The C’tan prepared to wage war on the ancient ones with their new army of Necrons in pursuit of new souls to eat. The next conflict (often referred to as the war in heaven) was on such a massive scale that no subsequent combat could hope to match its severity. The war itself lasted millennia, and the Old Ones were gradually pushed back across the galaxy. The C’tan, on the other hand, had one major flaw in the form of the warp. To stop the C’tan’s invasion, the Old Ones were forced to utilize every warp-related weapon at their disposal. This included bio-engineering races with a high warp affinity, such as the Eldar (excellent in all sorts of psychic warfare) and the Orks, to combat the C’tan (perfect in all forms of physical warfare, whilst retaining a high warp affinity). The old ones most likely experimented with early humanity, but they were never able to complete their work.

About the quiz

Meanwhile, on the far side of the cosmos, humanity was free to grow somewhat uninhibitedly. Throughout human history, several Psykers known as shamans led the race. The shamans possessed the capacity to preserve consciousness after death within the warp, allowing them to be safely reincarnated into new bodies. However, as time passed, this method became less and less safe, and as a result, an increasing number of shamans were unable to return. The shamans warned that this disruption in the warp would eventually develop itself into a new and dreadful force, and that humanity would perish if they were not guided. As a result, all of the shamans committed suicide at the same time, causing all of their spirits to merge within the warp. Exactly one year after the sacrifice, a boy was born who inherited the tremendous soul; this boy would become known only as the Emperor one day.

The Emperor began governing humanity from the shadows and, through millennia, assumed the garb of numerous religious and political leaders, never revealing his true nature. Despite his best efforts, the emotions expressed by humanity (and, to a lesser extent, the galaxies’ other races) eventually generated the warp’s first three gods of chaos: Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeench. Due to the tiny number of humans at the time, these gods were quite weak; nonetheless, the Emperor knew that as humanity grew, so would the strength of the gods of chaos. Shortly after this, the Emperor (in the guise of a knight) came across the slumbering form of a C’tan known as the Void Dragon in the Libyan Desert. Due to the C’tan’s immense power, the emperor was unable to murder the beast but was able to subdue it in the hope that it would aid in his plan for humanity.
