Only one afternoon after writing in chalk on the wall of the big hall — a text intended at Eleanor — the group feels more anxiety and more distrust. The others assume that Eleanor writes the frightening words herself, whilst Eleanor hopes the house will mark her out.

Also, after his aunt dies, Luke is supposed to hedge Hill House and Luke’s aunt is sent to look over the house and prevent searchers of amateur ghost. It is also a liar, a thief, that she wants to keep Luke out of trouble.
