In terms of both area (3.797 million square miles) and population, the United States of America is one of the world’s largest countries (over 327 million). It is made up of 50 distinct states and its national capital, Washington, D.C. Each of these states also has its own capital city, as well as other major and minor cities.
These state capitals vary in size, and some are rather huge when contrasted to other, smaller capital cities, but they are all politically significant. Surprisingly, several of the largest and most important cities in the United States, such as New York City, New York, and Los Angeles, California, are not the capitals of their respective states.
The 10 largest capital cities in the United States are shown below. For reference, the state in which they reside, as well as the population of the state’s major city (if not the capital), have been mentioned. The population data for the city are based on 2018 census estimates. Also, you must try to play this State Capitals quiz.
State Capitals Quiz
There is nothing more enticing than the feeling of history in the making and the exhilaration of history in the making. For these reasons, our state capitals always have a unique allure that captures the interest and pride of the entire state.
While each state capital has its own distinct appeal, we were intrigued about which one was the most endearing. Using our Charm Index, we assessed the charm scores of each continental state’s capital cities and tossed Washington, D.C. in for good measure.
The Charm Index ranks the charmingness of streets and communities based on data on:
Local enterprises are reasonably priced.
The reviews of surrounding establishments
Are they owned locally? – Are they corporate chains or small-town shops?
How active the neighborhood is, as well as the density of surrounding gyms, bike paths, parks, and so on.
Statistics on crime
A pleasant neighborhood is formed by thriving local businesses paired with a dwelling that feels safe, is lively, and offers several possibilities to engage with other inhabitants, making it a great location for apartment living. Local establishments such as bookstores, theaters, and restaurants with good ratings from residents tend to generate quite pleasant atmospheres, call us crazy. Meanwhile, less appealing districts have a higher concentration of chain retailers, pawnshops, strip clubs, credit lending stores, crime, and lack access to community institutions such as parks, town halls, and flea markets.

Those who came in first received high charm scores across the board, while those who came in last had far fewer charming pockets. However, because each city has its own pockets of beauty, we provided information on which street and district in each city is the most attractive.
