Don Lockwood is a prominent silent cinema performer who started on the circuit, then a stuntman, as a singer and dancer, and eventually became a star. In order to build public interest for its films, Don and his first woman, Lina Lamont, invented a false relationship in the movie company. Don’t stand Lina, a vain, brash female and unlike that looks quite well in the movie, is the only problem.
Lockwood is struck one evening by a crowd of ardent followers who rend his jacket and jump to the passing car by a beautiful young woman called Kathy Selden.

Don knows that Kathy, her new buddy, is actually a Chorusgirl and that as he snakes her in Lockwood’s hand, Lina Lamont, who has Kathy’s studio fire right away, tosses a pie at him, misses, and strikes her. When Jazz Singer’s first talk photo is a big hit with the audience, Simpson sees that he has to transform Lockwood and Lamont into a talkie. The production of the first Simpson talkie is disastrous, mainly due to the untrustworthiness of Lockwood as a serious actor and because of Lina’s horrific voice/faults with a microphone.
