Marcus Aurelius and Maximus speak after the fight. Clearly, they’re buddies of old age. Marcus Aurelius tells Maximus later in the evening that after he dies he would like to take over the control. His son, Commodus, who recently came to Germany with his brother Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), is strongly opposed to rule. He does not reign. It’s “not a man of morality.”
(Pro-tip: how not is moral Commodus since he’s so sweating. (Pro-tip: Most of this film is brilliant with immoral suddenness.)
Maximus chooses to think about it. In the interim, it is advised that Commodus will not be the next emperor. He smothers his father with a hissy fit for fury and sorrow and lies thereon.

He’s taken up by a slave caravan and he is in the desert someplace when he wakes up. Soon, near the outskirts of the Roman Empire, we learn that it’s to Africa. He was bought by a slave owner/friend named Proximo, along with other slaves (Oliver Reed).
Maximus refuses to fight on his first workout in Proximo’s home/training camp. We have the feeling he’s just preparing to stand and kill so the suffering is done. When he gets into the arena where he decides to defend himself and finally differentiates himself, everything changes.
Commodus becomes emperor and commands his family and Maximus’ death. Maximus leaves his home and rushes to Spain just to find his wife and son dead and torched his house. A slave dealer takes Maximus to North Africa and sells it to gladiator trainer Proximo (Oliver Reed). Proximo invites his gladiators to participate when Commodus decided to hold a gladiatorial show in Rome. Maximus takes the other Gladiators and takes them to victory in the first battle, designed as a reenactment for the people.
About the quiz
Commodus’s sister, Lucilla (Connie Nielson), and Senator Gracchus ( Derek Jacobi) resolve to help Maximus escape to collect Commodus and topple Commodus. When Maximus tries to escape, Proximo and the other gladiators will be killed by Romans and Maximus recaptured. Commodus says in a single fight in the arena that he’ll confront Maximus, but he stabs Maximus first to weaken him.
As the gladiators fought, the praetorian guard storms quickly to impede Maximus’ plan, which distracted Maximus and enabling him to escape. Proximo was killed during the raid and Juba was imprisoned as well as other gladiators.
Commodus explained it was a good story and people want to know how it finishes; it will only be a great death. Commodus described what could be better than fighting himself against the Emperor. Maximus is a man who does not fear or have been threatened by the assimilation of Commodus. Commodus grabbed as a brother to hug Maximus, and suddenly Maximus shouted out. Then, he held in his hand a little knife and injured Maximus at his side, slashing him deeply. Commodus had undertaken this cowardly conduct because he knew Maximus was important for him to excelled in fighting.
He battled with instinct, while he hit Commodus, and he fell down his Sword, he ordered Quintis for a new sword but ordered the guards to not help him. Maximus was weak. Maximus found the power and strength killed the Commodus, the mob settled down and slowly watched Maximus die.
