Let’s be honest: the most stressful aspect of having a manicure is deciding on a color to commit to for the following seven to fourteen days. That’s relatively painless in terms of cosmetic visits! Then you spin around and face the color wall. There are more lovely, somewhat different, and interestingly named hues to pick from now than ever before. I’m still trying to figure out if there’s a significant difference between OPI’s Russian Navy and Essie’s Sapphire (two of my favorite winter colors), but it’s not something I obsess over. It’s simple to switch things up the next time.
Unless I’m arranging a special occasion, my typical visit to the manicure salon is as haphazard as my color choice. While I’d like to believe that polishes appeal to me at random, the truth is that I’m not playing color wheel roulette at the manicure salon. After polishing thousands of nails and handling hundreds of bottles of lacquer, each manicurist and salon owner can definitely say which colors are more popular than others, according to our panel of industry experts. What Nail Polish Color Should I Get Quiz
Indeed, all three of our experts agree that 2021 was a great year for classics: reds, neutrals, and traditional French manicure colors were the most popular, followed by bursts of neon in the summer and somber ’90s colors as the temperature cooled. This year, on the other hand, has been a little more adventurous. Continue reading to see 19 of the most popular manicure colors in 2021, as well as 10 polishes that are trendy this year, according to celebrity crystal nail artist Mazz Hanna, Varnish Lane co-founder and CEO Lauren Dunne, and Sarah Gibson Tuttle, creator, and CEO of Olive & June.
Sheers and neutrals
Tuttle yells, “It’s always neutrals season!” “Neutrals are great for any occasion and are quite forgiving because minor flaws are less obvious,” she says. Furthermore, she anticipates that the color will be popular again this year and hopes to introduce some new Olive & June polishes in neutral shades soon.
Neons
While the neon trend in design didn’t survive more than a few seasons, these vivid colors were still popular in the beauty sector, particularly for summer manicures. We love the notion of combining a few bright colors in one mani to make a statement, as shown above.
About the quiz
Grays with a tint
Gray nail paints were two of the top three most-requested nail polishes at Varnish Lane in 2019. “It will always be at the top of the list since it is a colour that looks well on all complexion tones,” Dunne explains.
Reds
“A traditional cherry red looks well on all nail shapes and lengths, whether long or shorter,” explains Tuttle. We agree that it’s a completely timeless aesthetic.
The gloomy ’90s
“We’re still not over the ’90s nail moment,” Tuttle notes. “Darker polish hues will continue to reign supreme—black, or any variant on the hue like a chocolate brown, deep green, vampy plum, or midnight blue.”
Metallics
“Metallics are highly adaptable and may be worn all year,” Tuttle explains. She suggests wearing your favorite metallic hue as a solid or as a nail art accent for a subtle shimmer.
