Care Bear Summary
I was horrified the last time I saw The Care Bears Movie. Having said that, I was approximately five years old at the time. Nonetheless, you’d have to be a pretty wimpy youngster to be afraid of anything related to the Care Bears.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Care Bears, they’re a collection of bears made of cake or something. They go around claiming to care about everyone, including folks who are particularly showy at cash machines. The Care Bears have appeared in a number of films since 1985, including Care Bears II: A New Generation, Care Bears VII: The Wrath Of Khan, and Care Bears LMCIXX: Care Bears At Aldi. There was also a TV show, however, the plot revolved primarily around a lost birthday cake.
When I was younger, I was a huge fan of the Care Bears and would often sit in front of the TV to watch this movie on tape. And it never failed to frighten me. Other things that terrified me as a child included Evil Zippy from the RainbowChristmas program, the Test Card, and my own shadow, so the bar was set quite low. Which Care Bear Are You?
There’s a prologue before the opening titles that has a man named Mr. Cherrywood narrating a story to some orphans. Mr. Cherrywood will be relevant eventually, but not immediately, so disregard this section for the time being.
As you might expect, we begin with a song (by Carole King, no less) about how the Care Bears live on a cloud and fix vehicles, like a more compassionate version of Wheeler Dealers.
Kim and Jason, our two human characters, are introduced next. Because Kim and Jason don’t have any parents, they’ve resolved to despise everyone in the world. Kim and Jason are both appealing to me. I, too, despite the majority of people, so have a lot in common.
The appearance of Secret Bear and Friend Bear, who want to get up in their business, interrupts Kim and Jason’s anti-humanity position.
Kim and Jason’s faith in humanity is restored by the bears. They ignore the notion that bears aren’t human, and that Kim and Jason are probably hallucinating.
During this time, we meet Nicholas. Nicholas is a magician’s helper who is socially isolated and lonely. Nicholas, how he suffers. He should sign up for Tinder or something. Again, the Care Bears believe that the sight of a brightly colored bear will alleviate all of his issues, so Tenderheart Bear is sent to make friends with him.
About the quiz
This is the first danger: Nicholas discovers a magic book in a box of garbage before Tenderheart can do his thing. The book is about a lady who is also a little nasty.
I don’t know what the book lady’s name is, so I’ll call her Janet. Janet is competent; she knows how to get things done. It should be acknowledged, though, that I was scared of Janet when I was a child. What an evil genius I’ve become as I’ve gotten older.
Janet assures Nicholas that if he uses her spells to become a great magician, he will be able to solve all of his issues and gain a lot of fans. I have a feeling these spells will turn out to be bad. I think this because I’ve seen the film numerous times. But for the time being, Janet has promised to assist Nicholas.
Meanwhile, we return to Care A Lot and discover that the Care Bears have created a transporter a la Star Trek. It’s been broken for a long time, yet those two idiot infant ones manage to fix it by damaging it. As a result, Secret Bear and Friend Bear, together with Kim and Jason, are beamed back to Care A Lot.
