Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, a Guy Ritchie film from 1999, was alive at the time, according to my review. This leaves me with “Snatch,” Ritchie’s new picture, which adheres so rigidly to the “Lock, Stock” pattern that it could be mistaken for another rendition of the same song? Dick Tracy is once again the focus of the London underworld. Runyonesque names are used once again for the characters (Franky Four Fingers, Bullet Tooth Tony, Boris the Blade, Jack the All-Seeing Eye). Once again, the plot is perversely convoluted.
Ritchie has added a character played by Brad Pitt who speaks a gypsy dialect that none of the other characters in the film can comprehend. Pitt communicates better in this mode than some of the others do in languages we are supposed to be fluent in. He reminds me of a cross between Adam Sandler and Professor Backwards in terms of his vocal style.
Ritchie is a quirky, high-energy filmmaker who is known for his eccentricity. Voltage is more important to him than crime. “Snatch” is entertaining to watch as it unfolds, even if no sensible person could hope to understand the plot in just one viewing of the film.

It’s a sequel to Guy Ritchie’s somewhat successful “Lock, Stock and Two Barrels” from 2000. Unlicensed boxing promoter Turkish (Turkish) plans with violent criminal leader Brick Top (Alan Ford) to have his fighter lose a fight on purpose. But the Pakistani gypsy fighter, whose English is virtually unintelligible (thanks to Brad Pitt’s show-stealing performance! ), wins the battle and causes Turkish to get into serious problems. An undercover group of Hasidic Jews steals a magnificent diamond from Holland and brings it to London, where numerous different parties vie for its possession.
Keep your eyes open for characters like Boris the Blade and Bullet Tooth Tony.) There are captivating visual gimmicks of the music video/magic realism school in this humorous, violent, and obscene caper picture. It was fast, humorous, and tense all at the same time. Franky Four Fingers (Del Toro) bets on an illegal boxing bout while in London, England, on his route to deliver a stolen diamond. Serbedzija) and a handful of pawnshop proprietors are plotting to rob him at the bookies, but he has no idea.
A wildcard Irish gypsy boxer, Mickey O’Neil (Pitt), knocks out two inexperienced boxing promoters. To manipulate the bout, the two recruit Mickey to fight in lieu of their boxer and broker a deal with Brick Top (Ford), the local crime lord. Mickey refuses to collapse, so Brick gives them one more go at it.
About the quiz
A larger budget allows Guy Ritchie to experiment with his camerawork a little more than last time around. I love it because it’s fast, chaotic, and original. A few of the film’s opening 10 minutes or so are very fantastic, but the film never really slows down after that.
The script is crucial in this case. So, even the terrible characters are likable in a way.
In addition to the brilliant lines and humorous story points, Ritchie has pulled together an impressive number of subplots that play off one other, which makes them all the more enjoyable towards the conclusion. There were a few times when I cracked a smile.
While Snatch is not truly a dark comedy, it does have a gloomy undertone to it. The film does, however, feature a few sad moments that have nothing to do with its main storyline. But she’d be horrified by the way dogs are portrayed in some sequences; I’m not sure my mother would enjoy this film.
In one scene, the main antagonist hits various dogs with a stick, and Ritchie shows a dog that was murdered in a boxing match by another character. While the film’s excessive use of profanity makes a couple of gruesome moments unnecessary, I suppose it doesn’t really matter.
A good film although a touch dull, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. Could have been due to the fact that I didn’t know what to expect? Regardless, Snatch provided me with hours of entertainment, and I laughed my head off throughout the film. Guy Ritchie is establishing himself as a filmmaker to watch.
