Now in Saigon in 1968, Apocalypse opens. Benjamin Willard is hooked in a hotel room and severely intoxicated and desperate to get back in action by the army captain and special intelligence agency. He completed an assignment in Vietnam, only to returned home in the midst of civilization to a changed guy. He came back to Vietnam for a second trip and now waits restlessly for a mission after agreeing to a divorce.
Two officers come for Willard to escort Nh Trang where he meets two military superiors and a CIA officer who was informing him of Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, a rogue Green Beret. We have to identify and ‘kill’ Willard Kurtz who, with the support of the native Montagnard army, has uncovered and committed murder.
A boat is leaving to find him, and the narrator increasingly loses belief in an organized society on his voyage. He is subjugated by the huge weight of the jungle, a merciless Darwinian testing ground where every living creature tries to not be devoured every day.
