The cinematic adrenaline is “Whiplash.” It has become a really intimate and lively drama in an era when so many films are more honed by focus groups or marketing managers. Damien Chazelle took up a rather stable topic like a music student’s connection with his teacher and put it on a thriller built around excellent social commentary on what is needed to achieve it in an ever more competitive and cutting world. How far are you prepared to make it happen? How far are you prepared to push someone else onto the road to success?
Late in the evening, a young man named Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller) practices at his New York Music School, one of the best musicians in the country, when the infamous Fletcher, the leading teacher at school, and the director of his most important jazz band, get the ear from his drumming. Fletcher pauses, listens, cheats the young man for some commands, and goes on, appearing unhappy with his listening. Andrew had his chance to impress the individuals who could change our life, and that many of us had to do so for a little moment. He returned to his normal class band, telling his father that he probably had his chance to go up.

The tightest editorial in the picture this year, and an audacious screenplay that takes a corner to the stage, and then finds an unexpected solution, “Whiplash” is just as breathless as a drum solo, just as it rises and falls as its protagonists’ aspirations and dreams of climbing and crashing are.
Nevertheless, Andrew goes to the first competition with the band. The core drummer can’t find his music just before the band comes onstage, because Andrew was wrong. Soon afterward, Fletcher takes another student of the first year with Ryan to compete as core drummer with Andrew. He thinks he’s significantly more talented than Ryan. Andrew’s upset. Fletcher has Andrew, Ryan, and another drummer battle for the main location before the next competition so that they can play till they have the tempo they want. The location wins Andrew.
Andrew’s late and has to travel to fetch the drumsticks he forgot. He gets into a serious vehicle accident while returning to the tournament, but he decides to continue to compete. He plays off-tempo at the competition, covered in blood and daze, which leads Fletcher to kick him off the band. Andrew assaults Fletcher on the stage and is immediately rejected by Shaffer. Shortly thereafter, a lawyer represented by a family whose kid was slain by Fletcher gives Andrew the chance to testify against Fletcher. Anonymously, he agrees.

Andrew spends one night in a club where Fletcher plays and decides to listen. Fletcher invites him to get a drink after the set. Fletcher tells Andrew that he pushes only students to make them great. Whiplash is a very good film, one of the finest in 2014, however, it has its weaknesses just like all movies. Andrew’s dad is a failed teacher of secondary school, who is an example of Andrew’s concept of the unimportant typical existence. Andrew’s resilience to the counsel and love of his father is deplorable and underlines his obsessive, ambition. This is a very interesting relationship that may give a new layer to the movie, but unfortunately, it feels shoved off to one side and never truly dealt with or ended. I felt I was especially pulling from an otherwise absorbing and wonderful picture (you will know what I am talking about when you watch it), and thinking of how implausible an occurrence seemed and its effect. It’s still a movie, free from the restrictions of worldly reality, with this in mind. This film contains an evident spirit.
In his writings, Chazelle has built stunning settings and plays, but he and the storyline have maybe spread a little too far.
Again, these are small criticisms, whiplash is quite profound in 107 minutes and seems to have been easily addressed.
